Overview
Important 2024 Summer Financial Aid Information
The 2023-2024 FAFSA is required to be checked for Federal Aid eligibility for Summer 2024. Awarding of financial aid for Summer 2024 is expected to begin in March 2024 and will continue through the summer term. Student summer award funds are based on allocations from the state and federal government and could change without notice.
Federal Regulations
Calculation of the annual Stafford student loan limits will remain the same; students who receive their full annual loan during the Fall and Spring semesters will not have Stafford loan eligibility for Summer 2024. Students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to qualify. Please click HERE for more information about the SAP policy.
Eligibility

- Aid is based on a student’s enrollment status (full-time, ¾ time, ½ time or less than half time)

Pell Grant
In the 2023-2024 academic year, students enrolled in at least 6 hours of classes in their Program of Study may be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. If students receive 100% of their Pell award in both the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters and are enrolled in at least 6 hours for the summer, they may be eligible to receive Pell for the Summer 2024 semester. If a student is enrolled less than full-time for either Fall 2023 or Spring 2024, they may be eligible to receive the remaining Pell award for Summer 2024.
Summer Pell funds will not be disbursed until the student’s class attendance has been verified.
Pell Recalculation
Returning Students
- Georgia Southern has a Pell Recalculation Date that occurs the day after the initial drop/add period of a term ends.
- You must be registered in all courses for the term by this date in order for Pell to pay for them. This includes second part of Term Minimester courses or E-core courses.
- If, one or more of you courses that you are in on the recalculation date is drop/deleted for any reason, such as for non-attendance, after the recalculation date, you may replace that course or courses with another course.
- Whatever your enrollment status is on the recalculation date is the maximum enrollment status your Pell will be calculated on for the term.
- If you fail to begin a course, your Pell will be recalculated if your enrollment status would be less than what froze on the recalculation date.

New Students
- If you are enrolling in the second part of term Minimester, and it is your first term of enrollment with Georgia Southern, your Pell recalculation date will be the first disbursement date after the Minimester classes begin.

Loans
Summer loans are awarded based on the remaining eligibility of yearly loan limits. If a student maximizes their yearly loans in the fall and spring semesters and does not advance a grade level, they will have no loan eligibility remaining for the following summer. Please note that loan levels do not increase when you transition from Junior to Senior status; therefore, Juniors who maximize their loans for fall and spring will not have any loan eligibility for summer.
If you are a dependent student, have already received the maximum amount in loans, and you and your parent feel you need additional funds, you may apply for the Federal Direct (Parent)PLUS Loan at studentaid.gov. Another option (for both dependent and independent students) would be a Private/Alternative Loan.
If you are awarded a summer Stafford and/or PLUS loan(s), the funds will be disbursed to your account if you are enrolled at least half-time and have been verified as attending at least half-time (6 hours undergrad/3 hours grad).

Attendance
University policy requires all students to attend the first class meeting of all classes for which they are registered. Students who do not attend the first class meeting of a course for which they are registered will be dropped from the course. This policy applies to all levels of courses.
